Governance
The organization is governed by a Volunteer Board of Directors who in turn are assisted by a membership base of Active and Non-active members. The main difference between Active and Non-Active is that Active attend meetings regularly and have voting rights. Both Active and Non-Active members can help the organization within their own capacity with fundraising, volunteer work such as fostering etc. Non- Active members tend to help more in the background.

Mandate
The Mandate of Want A Pet? is defined by the objectives outlined in the by-laws:
(a) to promote and provide funds for animal welfare, protection and population control
(b) to undertake public education, dissemination and publication of information concerning animal welfare and create public awareness of the prevention of cruelty to animals;
(c) to endeavour to establish, maintain and operate a shelter for the care of abandoned animals
The third bullet is our dream; we care for animals through our foster homes which are some board members and members of the organizations who open up their homes for animals in need.
